Common questions

What is a tennis ladder league?
A ladder league is a season-long competition where players are ranked in a vertical list. You challenge players ranked above or below you, and if you win you can take their spot on the ladder. The goal is to be ranked as high as possible by the end of the season.
What USTA rating do I need?
We offer leagues from USTA 2.5 (advanced beginner) through 5.0 (advanced), in half-point bands. If you're unsure of your rating, the USTA website has a self-rating guide. You'll always be placed in a league with players at your level.
What happens if a league doesn't fill up?
Each league has a minimum player requirement that must be met before it can go active. If that threshold isn't reached by the start date, the league enters a grace period — typically 14 days — during which registration stays open and the league card shows exactly how many more players are needed. If the minimum is met during the grace period, the league activates automatically and that is the moment your card is charged. If the grace period expires and the minimum still isn't met, the league doesn't just disappear: as long as at least two players signed up, it becomes free Open Play — relaxed, no-stakes matches with no standings and no fee — so you still get to play. Only if fewer than two players joined is the league cancelled outright. Either way you are never charged — there is nothing to refund, because no money was taken when you joined. You'll be notified by email.
How do challenges work?
You can challenge any player within your configured range on the ladder (typically 3 spots above and 1 below). Once a challenge is accepted, you coordinate the match details through the app. Results are logged by either player after the match.
Can I play in multiple leagues?
Yes — you can join both a singles and a doubles league in the same season as long as you meet the rating and gender requirements for each.
Where are the matches played?
Players arrange their own courts. When sending a challenge you can suggest a location, and both players coordinate the details through the in-app messaging thread.
When am I charged?
Not when you join. Joining saves a payment method — your card details go straight to Stripe and never touch our servers — and the $10 is only charged if and when the league reaches its minimum and goes Active. Withdraw before that, or watch the league fall short of its minimum — in which case it either becomes free Open Play or, with too few players, is cancelled — and you are never charged. Once a league is Active the fee has been taken and is non-refundable. Please review our full Terms of Service for details.

1. Information We Collect

Activity data — We store records of leagues you join, challenges you send and receive, match results, and messages sent through the in-app challenge threads.

Contact messages — If you use the Contact Us form, we store your name, email, subject, and message.

2. Information We Do Not Collect

Payment information — Credit card numbers and payment details are handled entirely by Stripe and are never transmitted to or stored on Ace League servers. We only receive a confirmation token from Stripe indicating whether a payment succeeded.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To maintain platform integrity and investigate conduct violations

4. Information Visible to Other Users

Your name, USTA rating, gender, home court, win/loss record, and league standings are visible to all registered players on the platform. Your email address is visible to administrators only, not to other players.

5. Third-Party Services

7. Data Retention

Your account data and match history are retained for as long as your account is active. If you wish to have your account and associated data deleted, contact us at aceleaguetennis@gmail.com. Note that match results that affect other players' standings may be retained in anonymized form.

8. Data Sharing & Sale

Terms of Service

Effective date: January 1, 2026  ·  Last updated: August 17, 2026  ·  Ace League

August 5, 2026 — how entry fees are charged has changed. Joining a league now saves a payment method without taking any payment. The entry fee is charged only when a league reaches its minimum and becomes Active, so a league that never starts is never charged. See sections 3 and 4.

By registering an account or joining a league on Ace League, you agree to these Terms of Service. Please read them carefully. If you do not agree, do not use the platform.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. By registering, you confirm that the USTA rating and gender you provide are accurate to the best of your knowledge. Misrepresenting your rating to gain a competitive advantage is grounds for removal. You may hold only one active account.

2. Account Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at aceleaguetennis@gmail.com if you suspect unauthorized access. Keep your profile information — including email, home court, and USTA rating — accurate and up to date.

3. League Registration & Payments

Each league costs $10 per player. In doubles, this applies to each partner individually, so a team pays the fee twice.

You are not charged when you join. Joining requires a valid payment method to be saved to your account, but no payment is taken at that time. The fee is charged only when the league reaches its minimum number of players and starts as a full ladder. If it does not reach that minimum — whether it is cancelled or converts to free Open Play — you are never charged.

Payments and stored payment methods are handled by Stripe. We never receive or store your full card details. By joining a league you authorise Ace League to charge the saved payment method for the entry fee at the time that league becomes Active.

You must meet the league's gender and USTA rating requirements to register. Registering for a league constitutes a binding commitment to participate for the full season.

4. When You Are and Are Not Charged

Because the entry fee is taken only at activation, most situations that would call for a refund result in no charge in the first place.

  • League does not reach its minimum: If a league has not reached its minimum by the end of its grace period (14 days after the start date unless the league states otherwise), no entry fee is ever charged. If at least two players registered, the league converts to free Open Play — an unscored, no-fee format — rather than being cancelled; only if fewer than two players registered is it cancelled. In either case no payment was taken, so there is nothing to refund.
  • Withdrawal before activation: Withdrawing from an Open league removes the pending fee. You are not charged, and no refund request is necessary.
  • Cancellation by an administrator: If a league is cancelled by an administrator before it becomes Active, no entry fee is charged.
  • Once a league is Active: The entry fee has been charged and is non-refundable, regardless of how many matches you play or whether you later withdraw.
  • Removal for cause: Players removed from an Active league for violating these Terms forfeit their entry fee.

5. Match Rules & Integrity

All players are expected to report match results honestly and accurately. Submitting a false score is a serious violation and may result in permanent account termination. Specific ladder rules (scoring, challenge range, position swap logic) are set per league by the administrator and are visible on each league's detail page.

The administrator has final authority to correct, reverse, or void any match result in the event of a documented dispute or integrity violation.

6. Challenge System

When you receive a challenge you are expected to respond (accept or decline) within a reasonable time — typically before the challenge expires per the league's configured expiry window. Repeatedly ignoring challenges may result in administrative action. Challenges must be coordinated and played in good faith; intentionally scheduling and then no-showing is a conduct violation.

7. Conduct & Sportsmanship

All participants are expected to behave with sportsmanship and respect toward other players, administrators, and the platform. Prohibited conduct includes — but is not limited to — harassment, intimidation, abusive language in the in-app messaging system, collusion to manipulate standings, and any form of cheating. Ace League reserves the right to remove any player whose conduct is deemed harmful to the community.

8. Assumption of Risk & Limitation of Liability

Ace League is a software platform for organizing tennis ladder leagues. We are not responsible for arranging courts, providing equipment, inspecting facilities, or supervising play. Participation in tennis matches involves physical risk, including the risk of serious injury. By registering, and separately by accepting the assumption-of-risk acknowledgment at sign-up, you voluntarily assume all risks of participation and acknowledge that Ace League bears no liability for personal injury, property damage, or any other loss arising from matches arranged through the platform or from the condition of any court or facility. Players are solely responsible for their own safety, for assessing the suitability and condition of any court, and for ensuring they are physically fit to play.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Ace League's total liability for any claim arising from use of the platform shall not exceed the amount you paid for the league entry giving rise to the claim.

9. Dispute Resolution — Arbitration & Class-Action Waiver

Please read this section carefully — it affects how disputes are resolved. Any dispute or claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of Ace League will be resolved by binding individual arbitration rather than in court, except that either party may bring a qualifying claim in small-claims court. Arbitration will be conducted on an individual basis only.

You and Ace League each waive any right to a jury trial and to participate in a class action, class arbitration, or any other representative proceeding. If any portion of this section is found unenforceable, the remainder will still apply, except that if the class-action waiver is found unenforceable, this entire arbitration section is void. You may opt out of this arbitration agreement by emailing aceleaguetennis@gmail.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.

10. Termination

Ace League may suspend or permanently remove any account that violates these Terms, with or without prior notice. Grounds for removal include but are not limited to: misrepresenting your rating, submitting fraudulent match results, harassment of other players, and creating multiple accounts. Removed players forfeit any remaining league entry fees.

11. Privacy

We collect your name, email address, USTA rating, gender, and optional home court location to operate the league platform. This information is visible to other registered players within the app. We do not sell your data to third parties. Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe and is never stored on our servers. For questions about your data, contact us at aceleaguetennis@gmail.com.

12. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. When we do, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. Continued use of Ace League after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the revised Terms.
